Just over a year ago a group of digital business owners gathered together, with the support of Lancashire County Council, to discuss how our rapidly growing sector could be better supported and represented in the county and beyond.
We realised that we shared many common challenges, such as finding people with the right skills; accessing good training, events and apprenticeships; keeping skills in Lancashire; greater recognition for the superb work, achievements and job creation Lancashire digital businesses are making in the sector; and more widely helping to improve best practice.
As a result, we’ve formed Digital Lancashire, a not-for-profit CIC (Community Interest Company), as a self-funded membership and support organisation overseen by a board of volunteer directors.
Already we’ve made great progress by meeting with lots of potential stakeholders including universities, colleges, local authorities, skills boards and the digital businesses who’ll be at the heart of what we do. Most importantly we’ve been successful in securing funding from Lancashire County Council to give us the initial kick start we need to make a big impact on the sector.
